back in 2021 i started this business as i found the more i learnt about tea, the harder it became to ignore what sits beneath it, from environmental damage and extractive systems to the mistreatment of the people who grow and make it. my goal was simple: to source good tea directly from good people, and to be part of building a more transparent and fair industry 😌

supporting room to read feels like a natural extension of that, because whether it’s in education or in agriculture, real change starts with access to knowledge and opportunity 💖

day one on the boat: casually making genmaicha while outside it’s 38mph winds, storm warnings, no one else sailing, and we’re hitting 8.2 knots 💀🌊

meanwhile i’m being handed the wheel of a 48ft boat despite not knowing how to sail with the ocean throwing me about like we were in an actual tumble dryer. i took no videos as i spent the next eight hours covered in my own snot, vomit, and tears 🫠

when i finally arrived at shore looking like an actual shipwreck survivor, with locals filming our arrival, the captain (the only other person on board, btw) said in all his years he’s never sailed conditions that bad and no one should be out for the next week. i’m genuinely convinced he tried to kill me.

anyway… here’s me making tea x

today’s tea haul in budapest, hungary 💖

liu ruibiao returns to guangzhou every year to see family and bring back delicious tea, so this year i caught him just in time to stock up 🍵✨

meet liu ruibiao 😌

i first met him back in 2021, arriving in budapest tired from the road and curious about tea. in the most beautiful teahouse, ruibiao guided me through one of my first gong fu cha sessions, teaching me how to use a gaiwan for the first time 🍵

another day, i met his son, qizhen, who taught me more of their family’s story - how they came from guangdong in 2015 and built one of the only chinese-owned tea houses in budapest. that day, i tried the best biluochun of my life 😋

yesterday, after almost five years, i returned to the teahouse where ruibao and i drank dancong and longjing together. by the time i left, my bag was filled with four bags of tea, the cutest tea pet i’ve ever seen (the second last image, loookkk 😭), and the contact of his tea dealer back in guangzhou, who i’ll meet in exactly one month ✨

one of my favourite things about tea is all of these little connections that you get to make along the way 🥹

meet michael and doreen, two people who’ve supported this business since the very beginning 💖

eisa tea co. started five years ago with two goals: to share good tea and help end exploitation on tea farms. michael and doreen were there through all of it 🥹

i met them while i was still at uni, after their dog alfie escaped and ran straight into me. by the time doreen caught up, alfie and i were already besties. i went back the next day to see him… then just kept going back 🐶❤️

i loved alfie like he was my own child (i’m a dog person, if you can’t tell), and michael and doreen treated me like one of theirs. it came to light that they had been prominent business people back in their day, and all of the issues i was facing with starting my own business, they’d already faced themselves. they shared with me all that they knew - and yet, they don’t even drink tea! 🍵

a few weeks ago i got back from my longest asia trip yet, and the first people i saw were, obviously, michael and doreen. i offered them some of the best teas from japan and taiwan, they politely refused, and we chatted like no time had passed 🥰

i don’t have a lot of family left in wales, but i do have michael, doreen, and of course, alfie 💖
