recently i had the opportunity to sit down with zoe, founder of @muyehtearoom in taipei 😌

she began her tea journey almost exactly fifteen years ago at wisteria tea house, one of taipei’s most iconic tea spaces. she described it as a utopia filled with poets, painters and writers, where tea became a way of connecting with people. for five months, she wasn’t even allowed to answer customers’ questions; she simply brewed, observed and learnt.

owning a tea room had always been her dream, and long before she had the money, she had the name: 穆葉. translating it as ‘reverent leaf’ barely scratches the surface when the chinese version, as she explained, holds so much more.

over cups of roasted dong ding and a 2012 gui fei oolong, she told me that tea used to be less about flavour notes and more about feeling. ‘maybe it reminds you of your mum’s kitchen, and it makes you feel good,’ she said. ‘that was enough.’

today, alongside raising her two daughters, she’s created a space where people come together to host workshops, share tea, and build community. that’s how i first came to know of this beautiful tea room (specifically, via a tasting by @angenanasips ).

when we spoke about tea ceremony, she pointed out that ‘tea isn’t just elegant. it’s the drink of farmers and monks. it can be rough, full of life.’

i loved her immediately.

my second full-day taiwan tea tour 😌🍵

we started the day with Master Li in taipei, discovering things that even i didn’t know about tea, before heading into the mountains of maokong to spend time with a tea-growing family i’ve known since the very beginning of my time in taiwan. it feels so special to finally introduce other people to the people and places that have become such an important part of my life 🥹

we learned how tea is picked, watched the freshly harvested leaves begin their journey as they were laid out to wither, and got to see parts of the processing that most people never experience, all whilst drinking tea fresh from the farm 😋

we made traditional pineapple cakes together, and because two of us had allergies, our wonderful hosts surprised us with freshly made baozhong tea mochi instead. they were so incredibly kind, and before we left they filled our bags with even more goodies to take home 💖

i’m so grateful that people choose to join my tours and trust me to share this side of taiwan with them. for me, this has never just been about tea, but is more about building genuine connections, slowing down, sharing meals, learning from one another, and creating experiences that stay with you long after the day is over.

genuinely, this was one of the best days i’ve had in taiwan, and i really hope the guests felt the same 💚

discovering myanmar’s hidden tea treasures 🇲🇲

deep in the mountains of northern myanmar lies mogok, a place famous around the world for its rubies. but hidden among these mountains is another precious treasure: tea.

my personal favourite (and the one i am most excited to share with you) is called tree spirit white. crafted from mountain-grown tea trees, it is delicate, silky, and opens with soft notes of honeysuckle before revealing ripe pear, gentle sweetness, and a lingering, honey-like finish. yes, it really is that good 😌

i first tasted this tea with phyu thwe, the founder behind this incredible project. through her work, she is helping preserve myanmar’s tea heritage, supporting local growers and bringing attention to one of the world’s most overlooked tea origins.

as such, it is such an honour to now share this tea with you ❤️
