Although Georgia is often associated with black tea, its tea makers are increasingly exploring green tea processing and the range of flavours that can be achieved from the same plant.
Renegade Tea Estate produces its teas in Imereti, where the team experiments with different techniques to find the best expression of each harvest. Its green teas are hand-harvested and processed in small batches at the farm.
Green Velvet is the mildest of the estate's green teas. It has a fresh, smooth, vegetal flavour, accompanied by a sweet aroma and a gentle aftertaste reminiscent of mango. Its liquor is yellowish rather than intensely green.
One of its most appealing characteristics is its forgiving nature. The producer describes it as particularly suitable for people who sometimes leave their tea leaves to steep for too long. Even so, cooler water helps preserve its softness and sweetness.
