HOA UJEON GREEN TEA | Korean First-Flush

HOA UJEON GREEN TEA | Korean First-Flush

£22.95Price

Hoa Ujeon represents the most prized moment in the Korean tea harvest: the first tender shoots of the season. Carefully picked before Gogu (Grain Rain), Ujeon is made from some of the youngest leaves of the year, prized for their delicacy, natural sweetness and refined character.

Quantity

Ujeon (우전), meaning “before the rain,” refers to Korean green tea harvested before the traditional seasonal marker of Gogu. Because the harvest takes place so early in spring, the tender shoots are available in limited quantities, making Ujeon a particularly sought-after Korean tea grade.

After harvesting, the leaves are processed to preserve their fresh green character rather than undergo the extensive oxidation associated with black tea. The result is a delicate tea in which sweetness, fresh vegetal notes and umami can take centre stage.

Hoa Ujeon's character is refined rather than forceful. Sweet pea shoots and buttered spinach bring a fresh, garden-like quality, while steamed chestnut adds warmth and depth. Hints of fresh orchid contribute a floral elegance, balanced by silky umami and a lingering natural sweetness.

This is a tea to savour slowly, particularly if you appreciate subtle differences in leaf quality, harvest timing and brewing technique.
