as the days get colder, i find myself craving one of my favourite hot drinks, champurrado ✨

a rich mexican chocolate atole made with cacao, cinnamon, and masa harina, it’s thick, cosy, and one of the only drinks that can make a cold day feel warm 🥹💖

i spent three months in cdmx, and was shown at tamales iztamalli how to make the best champurrado i’ve ever had 🥰 this beverage dates back to pre-hispanic times, rooted in indigenous traditions where cacao was sacred and masa-based drinks were everyday nourishment. it’s comforting, grounding, and a little bit nostalgic, even if you didn’t grow up with it.

i found one of the sweetest little tearooms in osaka 🥹

we slipped inside, sat on tatami, and were suddenly surrounded by shelves of tiny figurines, old wooden drawers, and decades worth of the family’s memories 🧸

my friend ordered matcha, i had hojicha, and the owners chatted with us in japanese. the tea was delicious. was this really a cafe, or were we really sitting in the lovely old couple’s home? 🍵

we snacked on cookies, sipped our drinks slowly, and sat in this cosy pocket of warmth while the rain tapped outside. it smelled like tea leaves and old wood, and the owners gave us little handmade gifts 🌧️🎎

it was a small reminder that tea has a way of making strangers feel like family, even just for an afternoon 💛
