This compact side-handle teapot follows the kyūsu form - a traditional Japanese style of teapot designed around control, precision, and short, repeated infusions. The sideways handle lines your wrist up naturally with the pour, which makes it easier to start and stop the flow cleanly. That small ergonomic detail adds up when you’re doing multiple infusions back-to-back.
The body is kiln-fired stoneware with a softly textured, semi-matte glaze that lets some of the raw clay character show through. It feels calm and substantial in the hand and the proportions are compact and balanced, so it sits low and stable between pours and feels easy to handle when hot.
Available in three grounded colourways - green, black, and brown - each with the same form and feel, just a slightly different mood.
Why this kyūsu form is so good for tea:
- Ergonomics That Actually Matter
With a side handle, your wrist stays straighter as you pour. This gives you finer control over flow rate and makes it easier to stop pouring at exactly the right moment. If you brew teas that turn bitter quickly when over-extracted, this precision genuinely improves results.
- Designed for Short, Layered Infusions
Kyūsu-style pots are traditionally used for teas that benefit from multiple short steeps rather than one long one. The compact volume makes it easy to pour off the liquor completely between infusions, so the leaves don’t keep extracting in the pot. That keeps flavours cleaner and more expressive across pours.
- Thermal Behaviour That’s More Forgiving
Stoneware holds heat more evenly than very thin porcelain. That thermal stability helps keep your infusion temperature consistent across multiple pours, which is especially useful for green teas (at slightly cooler water), oolongs, and lightly roasted teas that can swing harsh if temperatures spike or crash.
- Built to Be Handled While Hot
The side handle stays cooler than the body, so you can pour comfortably even when the pot is properly warm. Combined with the softly textured glaze, it makes the teapot feel secure in the hand.
Which colour should I choose?
All three colourways use the same clay body and glaze type - the difference is purely mood and how it sits in your space.
- Green
Soft, earthy, a little mossy. Feels calm and organic.
Nice if your setup leans light, natural, or plant-filled.
- Black
Minimal, grounded, quietly serious.
Feels modern and works well in darker or more stripped-back spaces.
- Brown
Warm, rustic, kiln-fired comfort.
Great if you like traditional, earthy ceramics and a slightly more “old teahouse” vibe.
(Each glaze has natural variation from the kiln, so no two pieces look exactly the same. Your teapot will have its own small quirks - that’s part of the charm!)
